UK Car Insurance - Private Clamping to be Banned

Numerous UK motoring groups are hailing a decision to prohibit private wheel clampers operating on privately-owned land. Government ministers are currently preparing to revoke more than 2,000 existing clamping licenses throughout England and Wales in a bid to marginalise rogue clampers who so often charge extortionate vehicle release fees.

'Cowboy' private clampers are a scourge that motorists can do without as the war on motorists continues with increased UK car insurance premiums, MOT and service costs and road tax which are unavoidable expenditures in order to run a car.

The ban on private clamping could be implemented as early as next year, bringing England and Wales in line with Scotland and Northern Ireland who already have stringent clamping rules in place.

Banning private clamping and vehicle release fees could save as much as £1 billion a year to the thousands of drivers who fall foul of these current scourges every year.

Professor Stephen Glaister, director of the RAC Foundation, said: "For too long unscrupulous clampers have managed to extort money from essentially law-abiding motorists, punishing them for their so-called crimes.

"At last that is going to stop and there will be many who will breathe a sigh of relief after years of outrageous behaviour."
