New figures have revealed that the number of British motorists driving without valid UK car insurance has declined by as much as 20 percent over the last four years.
This means that there are now 300,000 fewer fraudulent drivers than in 2006 according to the information presented by the Motor Insurers’ Bureau (MIB).
In the name of public interest, the MIB has also released the top five postcodes in the UK where drivers are most likely to travel without motor insurance.
These are BD3 in Bradford, West Yorkshire, M12 in Greater Manchester, and three areas in the West Midlands – B10, Small Heath, B21, Handsworth and B8, Saltley.
Ashton West, chief executive at the Motor Insurers’ Bureau, said: "The reduction in the number of uninsured drivers is a significant step in the right direction.
"The level of seizures and criminal convictions demonstrates that uninsured drivers are consistently being caught and removed from the road. But more drivers need to buy a policy to cover them on the road."
The MIB also revealed recently that 70 percent of UK drivers do not know what it means to ‘front’ a UK car insurance policy.
