The test drive of a lifetime turned out to be somewhat of a nightmare for a motorist who took out one of the world’s most exclusive supercars and caused an accident worth almost half-a-million dollars in a car insurance settlement.
A spectacular crash in a Pagani Zonda S supercar by a driver in Aberdeen, Scotland, caused one of the highest ever car insurance pay-outs by Aviva car insurance. The Italian-made supercar, which can reach up to speeds of 354kmph, smashed into a telegraph pole and a fence forcing the owners to return the vehicle to its manufacturers in Modena, Italy for repair.
An Aviva car insurance spokesman revealed: "This is the biggest insurance pay-out we have had for repairs to a private car in the UK. This is out of the ordinary for an insurer.
"Although the vehicle was badly damaged, Aviva decided that the car may be repairable and set about making arrangements for the car to be shipped across to Modena, Italy, home of Pagani, the vehicle manufacturer.
"There are roughly only 10 Zondas produced per year and they are painstakingly constructed."
The reconstruction work on the vehicle is likely to be completed by May, much to the relief of the owner of the car, valued at $863,000.
