Honda Car Insurance - Thousands of Vehicles Recalled
16/08/2010
Japanese car manufacturer Honda has ordered a recall for hundreds of thousands of its vehicles regarding a fault that could potentially lead to a vast spate of Honda car insurance claims.
Honda is following the lead of Toyota last year with a recall of over 400,000 of its cars sold throughout the United States and Canada.
The company has cited dangerous issues with the ignition interlock lever in Accords, Civics, Elements and some Accuras built between 2003 and 2004 that could lead to parked cars simply rolling away if parked on a hill.
At present it would appear that no Honda vehicles in the UK are affected, although some motoring experts warn that this could escalate into a worldwide problem affecting every quarter of the motor industry.
Honda’s experience suggests that these ignition interlocks wear out more quickly than previously thought. Their role is to prevent owners of automatic Honda vehicles from removing their keys unless the car is in park mode.
Certainly a rollaway incident can lead to UK car insurance claims and potentially serious injury so Honda owners should remain on alert for any additional news on product recalls.
