Road Safety Awareness Campaign Launched Targeting Major Car Parks
05/01/2010
UK drivers will be involved in a brand new road safety awareness campaign this month.
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) and Park Rite have teamed up to provide drivers with information and prompting when arriving and departing with their vehicle in numerous Park Rite car parks.
Awareness raising posters are to be strategically placed across some of the country’s major car parks, displaying seatbelt wearing and daytime running lights messages – designed to be highly visible to all drivers at entry and exit stations and pay-point areas. Park Rite has provided its car parks with poster sites free of charge to the RSA.
Noel Brett, Chief Executive of the Road Safety Authority, said: “The aim of the campaign is to deliver an important road safety message to drivers and passengers at a key point of intervention, the start of their journey.
“The RSA is indebted to Park Rite for their generous support of this campaign. Indeed we have been working together to promote road safety for the past five years. I have no doubt that this campaign will create a greater awareness of seatbelt wearing rates among drivers and passengers, and encourage drivers to use their dipped headlights during the daytime.”
Drivers will be warned that driving without wearing a seatbelt can incur fines and up to four penalty points on their licence. Penalty points can affect car insurance premiums and is thus a needless risk.
St. John O’Gara, Chief Executive of Park Rite, said: “We want to ensure drivers get off to a safe start, by reminding them of the importance of wearing safety belts and using their dipped headlights during the daytime.”
