UK Car Insurance - York Hosts Car Free Day
29/09/2010
UK car insurance customers based in York and the surrounding areas are being encouraged to leave their vehicles at home today as the city hosts its second Car Free Day.
A number of bus operators across York are handing out free bus tickets on their websites, in order to attract residents to use public transport. Local traders have also clubbed together to provide food and street entertainment, including special offers for shoppers.
Richard Wood, assistant director at City of York Council, said the day is about proving to motorists that there are cost-effective, environmentally-friendly alternatives to driving their car such as cycling, walking or taking the bus.
Mr Wood said: "We recognise that private cars do have a place in modern life, but if people could reduce their car journeys and only use the car when it’s absolutely necessary, York would be a cleaner, greener and healthier city."
York’s Car Free Day also ensures that UK car insurance customers who do use their vehicles will benefit from lower congestion in and around the city centre.
